you can take the girl out of jersey, but you can't take the jersey out of the girl

let's try this again...

it's difficult to document a cross-country trip. especially one that took less than 3 days. yes, we hauled major amounts of ass. there are inside jokes that only eric and i would understand, so i won't even bother trying to explain. but i did take some pictures. so, even though it is a bit delayed, i bring you...

THE SAN DIEGO ROAD TRIP PHOTOPOST! *cue the trumpets*

the only night that we stopped anywhere to sleep was, believe it or not, the first night. we left on friday night at about 7pm, and stopped at a days inn somewhere in the shennandoah valley, just outside of lexington, va. this was the view the next morning:

next, i bring you photos from the welcome center/rest area that greets you when you enter tennessee:

and there's ART at this rest area:

that would be me, frolicking amongst the art. many people took pictures with the art, it wasn't like i was the only one.

texas is a very big state. i'm from new jersey, you can drive from the tippy-top of NJ to the bottom in probably about 3 to 3 and a half hours, maybe 4 if traffic sucks ass. but texas is MASSIVE. and there's a whole lotta nothin' through most of it. which made me sad. so many cities are over-crowded, and then there's all this empty land.

but lo! when i saw a sign in the distance, shining like a bright beacon of hope, i turned off of the highway:

*cue angelic sounds*

it was a beautiful morning, so we stopped, sat outside, sipped some coffee and chatted about life. i snuck a picture of eric with my cameraphone:

you know he's saying something deep and meaningful here. this is the only picture of him i took on the ENTIRE trip, so i posting it. so there. :P

moving on...

greetings from a gas station in pecos, texas!

this is a shot of some mountains somewhere in texas. notice the windshield. notice the smudges and splatters. those are bugs, people. my car STILL hasn't recovered. i really need to get my baby washed. the amount of BUGS in texas is UNREAL. i've never seen anything like it. driving 60 mph over a bridge, you could still clearly see them in the sky.

more mountains -- this time in el paso, texas

THE WORST CHINESE FOOD EVER. no lie. the name of the restaurant is "5 brothers" -- 2 of the people working there were female. none of the employees looked AT ALL related. and none were chinese, or looked the least bit asian at all. all i got was fried rice. i swear to you, there was BUTTER in it. there was nothing fried about it. fried rice usually has some egg in it, and some little pieces of carrot, and some peas, right? there was maybe 1 piece of egg, 2 peas, and one itty bitty carrot cube. and the rice?? like i said: SO not fried. we are talking uncle ben's here, folks. with butter. and eric said that his general tso's chicken wasn't much better.

this QUALITY *sarcasm* establishment is in the lovely city of las cruces, new mexico. it's a college town, and this place is not far from campus. let this serve as a warning to all incoming freshman and transfer students -- DO NOT EAT THERE!

eric and i were in hysterics as we left the place. we just could not believe how BAD the food was. how do you screw up chinese food THAT severely? i knew that i just HAD to take a picture of this place, but of course, had to be stealthy about it. i knew i'd have to share this experience to you, my lovely friends and readers. and WARN THE PUBLIC against BAD CHINESE FOOD!

eric took the wheel, and we slowly drove around the parking lot. i opened my window, aimed my camera and *click* took the photo, and off we went. eric's parting comments? "we're going to blog them right out of business," which made me laugh even harder. never underestimate the power of the blog, folks.

sadly, THIS is my last picture from THE ROAD:

WTF is this, you ask? why, it's the rio grande, of course! at least, that's what the sign said. my reaction: "um, the rio grande...? not so grande." i don't know if it was just the area we were in, or if there's a drought, or if it's always like this, but this is quite the unimpressive river.

THIS, FOLKS, IS MY APARTMENT

lovingly nicknamed "the cube" because, well, it's teeny. 10 feet by 18 feet. itty bitty studio apartment.

this was day one

even more progress has been made since then, but i haven't taken pictures of that yet. more will come eventually, don't worry. but i wanted to at least make a post showing you how i got here, and some of the sights we saw along the way. and the beginnings of my new life here in san diego.
