you can take the girl out of jersey, but you can't take the jersey out of the girl

2006-05-09 The current mood of meredithelaine at www.imood.com

last night, eric took me out to dinner to celebrate the fact that i had 2 job interviews in one day. we went to this lovely italian restaurant. old-school family-style italian, where the portions are ginormous, the tablecloths are red-checkered and the booths are rounded with red leather seats. there were also christmas lights all over the place, and pictures of italian-american icons EVERYWHERE. there was an awesome picture that looked like it was from the 50s or 60s. of 2 actresses (one of which i think was sophia loren), who was looking with a snarky sideways glance at another actress. they were both sitting at a table, it looked like it was at an awards ceremony or something. the 2nd actress was blonde, and busty and bustING out of her dress, and having a "wardrobe malfunction," if you catch my drift. hence sophia's snarky look. how badly do i want that picture in my room????

anyway, dinner was just LOVELY and delicious, and i've got leftover manicotti in my fridge. YAY!

the interviews themselves went well. one was a 2nd interview for a recruiter position, and i would honestly be very surprised if i didn't get an offer. i just clicked very well with everyone in the office, even the regional manager (who i met with yesterday). i was really able to be myself (quirky, odd, etc.) -- but she said that i seemed to have a good grasp of knowing when to turn that down. because some clients you CAN be all warm and fuzzy and funny with. others are strictly all business. you learn to gauge that over time.

the 2nd interview yesterday was for a long-term-temp position as an HR Assistant. basically doing mostly computer work. HRIS database, etc. i think that the woman (girl? i doubt she was much older than me, if she was even AS old as me!) liked me, and thinks that i'm competent enough for the job, but i think she is afraid that i'll get bored with it. the agency that sent me on the interview didn't prep me very well for it, so i didn't know the exact details of the position. so i was stressing how i've had a lot of candidate contact, etc. and that i really like that aspect. and in this position, there's very little of that, and a lot of computer work. well, obviously, i like computers too, since i spend so much time on them - hee! so i tried to stress that as well. eh, no big loss if i don't get this one, because it doesn't even pay as much as i made in NJ. by over $3 per hour! yikes! (which the agency ALSO didn't tell me beforehand! grrr)

in other news, i am SUPER EXCITED, because today, at 4pm pacific time, i'll be getting pre-sale tickets for...TAKING BACK SUNDAY (yes, once again). they are coming to san diego again this summer (on a SUNDAY, again...hehehe), and the show is july 23rd, 8 DAYS BEFORE MY BIRTHDAY. so, obviously, i MUST get tickets. seriously, TBS is such a sweet band. first they come to SD a week after i move here, now they're coming back a week before my birthday...they're SO sweet to think of me - hahaha!

so that means that so far, i have TWO concerts lined up for this summer. TAKING BACK SUNDAY in july and...(OMGWTFBBQ!!11!) TOAD THE WET SPROCKET in august! yep, TOAD is actually reuniting for a bunch of shows this summer, and i've been a fan since high school -- they even played at the U of S with hootie and the blowfish in 1995 (ah, memories -- oh, and rumor has it that darius slept with a girl from my floor! WHOA! heh)! but the icing on the cake of that is that the TOAD concert is right after eric's birthday! and we are both hardcore TOAD fans from way back in the day, so we're both totally geeking out about this.

so how dope is that, that we're BOTH going to have superduper birthday concerts this summer????

*superduper geek-out dance*

one reason that timing really sucked on me leaving NJ when i did was that i didn't get to go to Bamboozle. i mean, come on:
taking back sunday
fall out boy
panic at the disco
a thorn for every heart
all american rejects
hawthorne heights
hellogoodbye
just surrender
method man (WTF???? METHOD MAN??!!!!)
paramore
relient k
thursday

and a bunch of other bands that i've heard of, but never heard. *sob* so it probably would have been like when i went to skate & surf. it was so awesome - it was the first time i saw TBS, i saw finch, against me! play an acoustic set (eh, my bf at the time liked them), i saw what i believe was one of the first jamisonparker performances.

bamboozle would have been this huge musical eye-opening experience and lovefest of new bands for me. plus a chance to see my usual favorites. execpt, it was at the MEADOWLANDS, which is just...WEIRD to me. but whatever.

...the bamboozle website (see link above)...says that there's going to be one "The Bamboozle Left" in cali in october. oh, one can only hope it's in SD, and that the bands are JUST as choice! *crosses fingers*

oh, and tip of the day (i also shared this on myspace) -- i went to wal-mart the other day -- i'm stil fascinated that i can buy booze at wal-mart, target and even rite-aid, hahah! and i bought Arbor Mist Blackberry Merlot for $2.97. it is SO tasty. it's like JUICE. there's no vitamin C to speak of in it (i checked!), but you do get 2% of your daily calcium in each glass. if i am not mistaken, Arbor Mist is barely a step up from Boone's. and if my sister (who has taken wine classes in NYC and is a connoisseur of sorts) knew that i was drinking it, she'd kick my ass, probably. but i don't care. it is YUMMY. and honestly, i have fond memories of Boone's. taking organized bus trips in college to NYC to see "RENT" and "Miss Saigon", and then buying bottles of Boone's to drink in the back of the bus on the way home...ah. good times. but yeah, get this Arbor Mist stuff. it comes in different flavors too - there's strawberry, peach, green apple, etc. and really, for under three bucks, you can't beat it. go and indulge your white-trashy side; i do it quite often in many different ways. YAY!

so yes, monday was a great, GREAT, did i mention GREAT day.

smooches to everyone. xox
