so just ask the question
SUNDAY night, eric and i were TAKING it BACK.
(sadly, i couldn't figure out where the zoom was on my cameraphone until after the concert, so no close-ups...bummer)
we stood right on the edge of the pit, and i was smushed against where the soundboard was. so it was very hot, smelly and sweat-drenched. i bounced up and down like a madwoman, screamed and sang along to every song, and nearly passed out a few times. oxygen was in rare supply.
for me, taking back sunday is one of those bands that, even if they're playing of the their songs that isn't one of my favorites, there's at least a line or two that resonates with me, and i can scream/sing that line so loud and get "IT" out of me. that agression, that anger, that upset. whatever it is in me that i haven't been able to express.
it's only been this year (meredithelaine 2k6, word!) that i've started to express myself more fully to others, and been able to verbalize my feelings. but there are a lot of residual feelings and things from the past that i haven't been able to and never will be able to say to some people. so being able get all "emo" and scream out all the angst and sing my anger along with adam lazzara and fred mascherino and the rest of the crowd and jump around -- it helps me out SO much.
it's a high i get from concerts.
i left the concert a gross, sweaty, nasty, hoarse mess. and i was THRILLED. and eric even had a good time, even though he's not really a TBS fan. and it made me superhappy that he came with me, because he's already shared so much of his interests and things that he does with me. which, of course, is going to 99.44% of the time be the case, because i'm new to SD. but this was something i got to share with him.
the only bummer about the show was that TBS didn't perform "new american classic" -- it's one of their slow songs, and at previous shows of theirs, they've performed it, starting out just adam and fred, acoustic. and then the rest of the band comes in later and it's just BEAUTIFUL. but on the other hand, it may have been a good thing that they didn't, because you know, i may have gotten even more "emo" and started crying or something. *snicker*
but yes, seeing TBS on sunday was LOVE.
yesterday, i got an extra special treat, and got to hang out with eric's band while they went into the studio to record some tracks for their new CD.
it was so awesome to see the whole process. i sat the the control room where the engineer with fiddling with the knobs and buttons and how everything sounded. it's just so interesting to see the difference between watching the guys performing live, and seeing them stop mid-song and do another take, then record overdubs of vocals, etc. i'm just in awe of these guys. they really are tight as a band musically. separately, they are each extremely talented musicians, that's for sure, but as a unit, they just have this vibe that is amazing. not to mention that they are all just hysterical! seriously, they're crazy. in the best possible way; my stomach hurt from laughing so much.
but sitting and watching them in the studio made me so jealous. i'm jealous of their whole band vibe. i'm jealous that they know what they're doing. i'm jealous that they already have a CD and now they're working on another one. they're doing these things that i want to do SO badly, but i just don't know how to do, or where to begin or what to do. maybe someday i'll find it all out. but hell, i've only been in san diego one week. it's not as if i'm leaving anytime soon.
i have all the time in the world to learn. and hopefully, to begin to make my dreams come true.
but yes, getting to see Worth Every Scar in the studio yesterday was supahdupah LOVE.
it's been a good couple of days.
