wouldn't live there, though
nifty to see, but of course, i wasn't impressed until i saw THE MECCA - the buildings of the record labels: elektra, warner bros., atlantic, etc. i even took a picture. yes, i'm that much of a music dork.
right across the street from the record companies, there's a teeny karaoke bar. so eric and i went in, had a few drinks, and ended up singing. you have to understand, that i am currently suffering from some vicious attack upon my upper respiratory tract. bronchitis? sinusitis? i don't know, but i can barely speak a few words without busting into a coughing fit, i've been sniffling and sneezing, and basically can only breathe through one side of my nose at a time. i hate that.
so CLEARLY, i am NOT in full voice, i am sounding nasal as hell, and a few notes are cracking and are flat as i'm singing "killing me softly" (the fugees version).
but yet, as i'm singing, i hear this one gentleman say to the karaoke host:
"WOW! this girl is GOOD! she should record an album!"
now, that is a hell of a compliment in itself, ESPECIALLY when i am sick as a dog (WHICH, btw, eric can vouch for. he was there, he heard me hacking, saw me overheating, sweating and feverish for no reason, etc).
but there is just something DIFFERENT about hearing that kind of comment when you are in LA, across the street from the offices of some of the biggest record labels in the world.
i still feel like hell today, though. dizzy, coughing, congested, etc. i ate some hard sourdough pretzels because i'm running out of other stuff to eat. but i don't really want to venture out while i'm still all lightheaded like this. i did that the last time i was sick (you know, 2 weeks ago), and that was a BAD idea.
