you can take the girl out of jersey, but you can't take the jersey out of the girl

part two of the howie day story, which actually has howie in it this time

2004-12-17 The current mood of meredithelaine at www.imood.com

as promised (or threatened, depending on your POV)...part two!

part one is here, in cased you missed it.

after the photo-op with the calling, we all sit back down and chill until it's time for Howie to perform. and wait. turns out that he fell asleep on his tourbus, and they had to go wake him up. hee. so C and i are chit-chatting, and i'm just looking around the place, since this is probably the only time i'll see the inside of a recording studio.

at the back of the room, there's a door with a glass window. well, who's behind the door, but Howie! i look at him and smile, and he starts waving at me so i waved back kinda goofy-like (since i'm smiling like a dork and basically having a heart attack), and he started waving really fast, like a little kid.

yeah. we shared a "moment".

finally, he comes out and performs. with the first note of his first song, there's this loud blast of feedback. Howie jumps a bit and makes a comment about how that was a great start. heh.

it seemed as if the room (there were MAYBE 50 of us) was mostly howie fans, but we were, at first, pretty quiet. so Howie joked, "alriiiight...the awkward silence vibe. cool. i can work with that..." he seemed to be in really good spirits.

unless you're a Howie fan, any kind of description i make of the performance, and "Day-say" will be lost on you. but he was definitely on point. the performance, compared to the others i've seen, was toned down. Not as loud, and not really any Howie-screaming, but i was kind of expecting that, since it was a recorded performance for an "adult-contemporary/alternative" radio station.

afterwards, there was no photo-op, he just rushed of the stage and was whisked away. we were all a little baffled. so C and i dawdled a bit, waiting in the lobby of the studio. i had seen Howie go upstairs; i'm guessing that they set up the control room as a VIP room. we were hoping he'd come back downstairs, but he didn't. sadly and hesitantly, C and i decide to leave.

we're walking down the alley, and we keep looking back towards the studio entrance, really wishing that we had been able to get a picture with him. C turns all of a sudden and says, "wait! i think that's him! i see a fluffy head!" (see: Howie's hair)

"oh shit! yeah! that's him!" i giggled and we started walking (quickly, but not running. that would be too obviously over-anxious) back over to him. he was taking pictures with fans and chit-chatting. now, i feel REALLY bad intruding on celebs (you know, because i encounter them daily, haha), but this was HOWIE. i met him in july, and we weren't allowed to take pictures at the meet-and-greet. i'm not letting this opportunity pass.

camera in hand, i asked, "Howie, would you mind...?" and he said, "no, come on over!" i took a picture of him and C first, then she took a picture of Howie and i.

this is where my giddy 8th grader-ness comes in.

i oh-so-casually slip my arm around his waist, and he wraps his around mine. we smile. *flash* i turned to him and gave him a little squeeze. "thanks so much Howie. this was a great show." he squoze (is that a word? if not, i made it up) me back and said "thanks!" and smiled all huge and adorable.

and so, on a Howie-high, C and i went down the street to try and hail a cab. Howie and his "people" were about 100 feet or so behind us, on the other side of the street. they crossed the main road and head to his tourbus...in the Acme Supermarket parking lot.

classic.

and that's where my Howie Day story ends.
