please tell me...

2004-10-13 The current mood of meredithelaine at www.imood.com

my entry from earlier was deep, i swear.

but now, on to bigger and better things!

hot on the heels of learning that usher, with his "reissue" (read: rip-off scam of the same cd with only 4 new tracks) of "confessions", has once again hit the top of the billboard charts, i make one request ---

can someone please tell me, for the love of all that is good and holy, what is so freakin' awesome about usher???

- it's not like he's doing anything innovative here. having lil' jon, as entertaining as the King o' Krunk may be, screaming "YEEEEA-UH" and "WHUT" on your tracks is not a novelty these days.

- he's using michael jackson's tired old dance moves. it's sad enough when MJ has to break out the moonwalk after 20 years to try and capture a little of his former glory. it's even sadder when an artist in his mid-twenties busts moves that were cool when he was 5 or 6 years old. nostalgia is all well and good, but usher's too young for this crap. save it for the michael jackson tribute album, son.

- his voice? eh. slightly better than average, i suppose. but i think that urr-shurrr has been hittin' the cristal a little too hard and not drinking enough hot tea with lemon and honey. not to mention the lip synching (for example, on the mtv vmas). that burns me up more than anything. you got a record deal for singing. so SING goddamn it. i don't want perfection, i want reality.

usher gets to coast along on his "good looks". to me, he's nothing special, but that's a matter of personal taste, i suppose. clearly enough of the world's female population believes him to be quite the hottie. you know what? save yourself a few bucks and buy a poster, then.

- the recent re-issue of his cd, "confessions" -- is the SAME EXACT CD as the old one, save for 4 new tracks. i recently saw an interview in which he stated that he wrote and recorded over 50 songs, that were whittled down into the 20-or-so track "confessions" cd. FIFTY. so instead of releasing a whole new cd of "extras" or "b-sides" or even a 5 song EP for that matter, usher goes ahead and releases the same damn cd, but with 4 more songs. does anyone else smell a scam, here? basically, now, if you are in fact a fan of the mediocre-at-best single "my boo" (featuring alicia keys --- oh, ms. keys! why did you stoop so low!), you have to shell out another $13-19 ALL over again for the 1 song you know you like, and 3 more you might like. do the math -- that's at least $3 per new song.

- lastly, he's a damn fool. it's no secret that his latest cd is a chronicle of his break up with chilli from TLC. he cheated on her, folks. HE CHEATED ON CHILLI!!!!! is he fucking INSANE?

first of all, i don't condone cheating. you have a problem in your relationship and you're not happy? then get the hell out. but even on a purely physical level, you have GOT to be out of your mind to go fuck some randoms when you've got the goods at home -- chilli is gorgeous!

so either A) you didn't have the balls to be a man and get out of a relationship you weren't happy in, or B) you're weak to temptation. what'cha gonna do, playboy?

that's right -- release a whiney-ass "poor me, i'm so gorgeous and misunderstood" CD. get all the girls to swoon to your "deep" lyrics, as you soulfully repent for your wrongdoings.

then go tap that ass in the back of the tourbus.

what a brilliantly, masterfully crafted plan. kudos to you, usher raymond.

i'm not a 100% usher hater. i loved "you make me" when it was a hit in '97. and hearing "yeah" in the clubs is fun sometimes (though the song is CLEARLY played out).

but usher just not as good as his ego claims.
overrated.
